Classes of '62 and '87 celebrating milestone anniversaries
Our featured classes this year are the graduating Classes of 1962, which will celebrate its 50th reunion during the Oct. 5, 2012 Homecoming and the Class of 1987, which will celebrate its 25th reunion. Scroll down for a few memories from 50 and 25 years ago.
Class of 1962
The Class of 1962 included 114 seniors. Russell Graham was principal and Forest Thilenius was the senior class sponsor. News from The Pirate Puns that year included:
Clements elected student body president
Dale Clements was elected student body president for the coming year by the student body last Friday. The president last year was Leon Buerck. The senior student council representatives are Gail Bellman, Donnie Radar, Dewey Degenhardt and Nancy Bock.
E. German girl enrolls At PHS
Heide Schulz-Netzer, who exaped from Wittenburg, East Germany in March 1960, is now a student at PHS. After escaping from East Germany, she lived in Stutgart, West Germany and has been in the United States one week. While in East Germany, she learned the Russian language, but knows very little English. She is 20 yers old and is now living with Mr. and Mrs. Reinhold Degenhardt of Altenburg,, to whom she is distantly related.
Seniors float best
The seniors apteured first place in the Homecoming float division, with their theme "Harvest Victory." The float, predominantly orange, white and gold, was adorned with a cornucopia spilling fruite and vegetables in addition to footballs. A huge sunflower of green, brown and gold formed the background of the float.
Seniors on second-quarter honor roll
Nineteen seniors were on the honor roll for the second quarter. The list is as follows: Velda Bohnert, James Brewer, Dale Clements, James Davis, Ruth Dreyer, Martha Eggers, Marilyn Hemmann, Roger Keman, Andy Fiefer, Carol L'Hote, Elaine Luehrs, Jerome Pittman, Leolo Renner, Helen Richter, Norma Schuessler, Heide Schulz-Netzer, Norman Soehl, Martin Weber and Edna Wingerter.
Odds and ends
The bookkeeping classes of Mr. Mecker recently filled out income tax forms. THey are now doing exercises in their workbooks.
Much to the horror of typing students, they have begun deducting 10 correct words for each error made on their speed tests.
The home economics 2 class is making plans to paint the interior of the tropy case.
L. Verseman speaks at conference
Lloyd Verseman, a PHS senior, gave a speech at the Soils and Crops Conference last Wednesday, January 17. The top of his speech was "My Soil Fertility Project." Last year he won the state award in soil fertility.

Class of 1987
The PHS Class of 1987 included 158 seniors. The principal was Dr. Daniel Steska, and the senior class sponsors were Bob Buessink, Pam Woodward and Ray Ballard. From the 1986-87 issues of The Pirate Puns:

A new sign has been erected showing that Perryville High School is the Home of 3A State Girls Basketall Champs, 1986.
Senior Spotlight
Jane Sutterer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Sutterer, has been an active member of mm any clubs and organizations throughout her high school years here at Perryvilel High School, such as the Press Club, National Honor Society, Scholar Bowl, Band and Senior Tuba Queen.
Senior Survey
In additon to the annual plague of pring fever, the class of '87 is experiencing an epidemic of Senioritis. In the midst of homework, tests, jobs and countless forms, our Seniors are planning for the future:
Kim Schlimpert - going to nursing school
Hava Liberman - go to a 6-year medical program
Deanna Martin - go to nursing school
Lean Pittman - go to college, live off the fat of the land
Candi Henderson - hopefully continue working at Buchheit's and possibly continue my education in agriculture
Apryl Schumer - go to college and enjoy life to its fullest extent.
Prom memories
Amy Graff - The whole evening was just too perfect. I was "Tickled Pink."
Angie Detjen - When Mark, Les and Bill tried to fit Elvira into our car at Strattman's but the car was too full.
Kris Hogard - The ride to Cape with Roger, Wendy, Sharon and Todd ha ha.
Kate McDermott - Steve's suspenders and the lead singer's fuzzy boots.
Angie Colin - The great time me and Tim had with Michelle and Bobby.
