Subject:Dual Credit Biology/Chemistry
I teach two dual credit courses, both through Southeast Missouri State University. One is Genetics and Cellular Biology (Advanced Biology), and the other is Introduction to Chemistry (Chemistry II). Both of them are 5 hours of college classes, and each costs a little more then $500.
The classes can also be taken for no charge, as high school credit.
The advantages of these classes are:
-They are significantly less expensive then taking them at SEMO.
-They are taught over a full year, of approximatly 36 weeks, versus the same class at SEMO is done in 16 weeks.
-The chemistry course is the only chemistry course required to get into the SEMO nursing program.
-The biology course is actually required in a bio major/minor from SEMO, and in many other colleges as well. It also can be used at SEMO to cover the University Studies course for life science. If the student takes that route, then they must go to the biology department office, and they will change their transcript to reflect this.
-If a student receives a "B" in the chemistry course, they can skip General Chem I and go directly into General Chem II.
The above may or may not be true for other colleges/universities, please contact their admissions office as to how it would transfer.
