A Bridge to Cultural Understanding!

world

The Spanish Club’s mission is to encourage and promote multicultural friendships, cultural and language exchange, and global cooperation and understanding. Members will have opportunities to open their minds to diversity, experience worldwide cultures, and share what they learn with the student body.

"If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart." -- Nelson Mandela

“Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.” -- Maya Angelou

Pick a destination, go there, be open-minded and talk to the locals. Eat the things they eat and go where they go. You don’t need to be fluent, just as long as you’ve got a smile on your face- people will be jumping over themselves to show you the stuff they’re proud of.

-- Jamie Oliver

  • Duolingo

"Free language education for the world!"

This is my favorite and there's a mobile app for it!

  • Livemocha

"Creating a World Without Barriers: Learn, Teach, Explore"

You act as an English teacher and native speakers act as your teacher. You submit written and oral activities that native speakers will look at, correct, listen to, and send you written or verbal feedback on your progress. You do the same for those learning English. Awesome! You can also communicate with native speakers to practice in both languages via video similar to Skype but through this learning platform.

  • Busuu

    "Your language learning community!"

Very similar to LiveMocha and just as good. They also have a mobile app.

  • Verbling

"The Best Way to Learn a Language"

Communicate with native speakers in short video sessions similar to Skype, for example, 15 minutes in English and 15 minutes in Spanish or whichever language and whatever amount of time you both decide.

  • LyricsTraining

Practice foreign language listening and comprehension skills through music videos and lyrics.
