Seniors Jewel Riney and Xavier Pfaff were announced as the 2025 Female and Male Athletes of the Year during Perryville High School’s Senior Day ceremonies. Jewel was presented with the Coach Frentzel Award, named after the late Winnie Frentzel, who was a longtime softball coach and art instructor at PHS. Xavier was presented with the Coach Pickle Award, named after Billy Pickle, a beloved PHS health and driver’s education instructor and football coach.
While attending Perryville High School, Jewel was a 4-year varsity member of the volleyball and soccer teams. She earned Academic All-State Honors and was also a member of the Homecoming Court. She was involved in PP Crew, National Honor Society, and participated in the A+ Program. She also received scholarships from Citizens Electric, Little Saline Sportsman’s Club, Perry County Community Task Force, River Hills Eagles, Liam‘s Llamas and Pirate Athletic Club. She will attend the Skin Institute to become an aesthetician.
Xavier was a member of the cheerleading and track teams. During his senior year, Xavier earned All-State awards for Jumps and Tumbling at the State Cheerleading Competition. While at Perryville, Xavier was also involved in National Honor Society, Student Council, Art Club, Silver Daggers, and Chamber Choir. He earned Academic All-State Honors and was a member of the Homecoming Court. He was awarded a cheerleading scholarship to Lindenwood University. While continuing his cheerleading career, Xavier will be studying physical therapy.
