Four Perryville High School students attended the SEMO Regional Science Fair on March 3 in Cape Girardeau with all four students advancing to the State Science Fair and senior Emma Fetterhoff winning best overall Project and earning an invitational to an International Science Fair.

Fetterhoff’s project “Detecting perfluoroalkyl chemicals in Heuchera utilizing infrared spectroscopy” earned top honors in the Senior Chemistry, Earth & Environmental Sciences, Energy, and Environmental Engineering category and was selected for an all-expenses paid trip to the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair later this year in Phoenix. 

Fetterhoff also earned the following special honors: Science Coach Overall Best Researcher Award, Cape Girardeau Area Engineers Club Award, Office of Naval Research Award, Regeneron Biomedical Science Award, and the Dr. E. Lawrence Bahn Memorial Fund.

Seniors Ashli Berkheimer and Josie Robinson earned top honors in the Animal Sciences, Behavior & Social Sciences, and Biomedical & Health Sciences category with their project “Exploring the impact of 30 kHz on Amblyomma americium.” Senior Chia Tiampong’s project “Roots of Belief: How Childhood Environments Shape Political Thinking” earned second place honors in the category.
