PHS SPED students stand in front of a "Job Olympics" banner. Several of the students have medals around their necks.

Perryville High School special education students competed in the Cape Girardeau County Job Olympics on March 6 at the Jackson Civic Center.

Job Olympics is a regional competition for high school students with disabilities to showcase, practice, and improve vocational and transition skills in a fun, supportive environment.

Students competed in events such as sweeping, sorting laundry, coin recognition, stocking shelves, folding towels, vacuuming, bag stuffing, and stuffing envelopes. Events representing real-world job and employment situations were judged by community members, business owners, and education professionals.

Students also had the opportunity to practice interviewing for a job with real business leaders. These events boost confidence, independence, and career readiness, preparing students for post-secondary employment.
